To the Left - you will find the latest entries - the workshop stuff is unfinished/in progress. These “songs” are usually without words and generally, well, unfinished sounding. I write the words last because that is the work of it. I don’t waste my time if there’s still a chance it won’t stick. Lots of stuff falls to the wayside. You can collect it and follow my progress.
I am Frank. I am from Ann Arbor. I had a really great band called Frank Allison and the Odd Sox. We always had fun and went everywhere to go nowhere. For 12 years we ruled many of the bars we played, but were naive, inept and unkept. We spun our glorious wheels until I lost my singing voice to spasmodic dysphonia. I took 7 years off and started a family. I listened to tons of music, but unless you count drumming on the steering wheel, I played not an instrument the entire time. A few years ago, my daughter wanted to learn music, so I bought her a uke. I figured its small size and the fact it had only 4 soft nylon strings would make it easier to learn. In the end, I taught her little, and eventually stole her uke. I played for fun and made up a daily tune that I would enjoy for an hour or so, and kiss goodbye. Soon I was grunting, ooing, hooting and whistling, doing whatever I could to convey melodies. My vocabulary grew. I basically overcame the spasm by forgetting the past and starting from scratch.I started this blog in april 2007. All the original entries are here. They document the tail end of the
Log Rhythms of Love project through the complete production of
World is Out the Window, and we have some way cool stuff planned for the near future.

Hi Folks - Sorry I’ve been away so long - but,
BAD NEWS - My motherboard has bit it! All my music and art is in limbo or bust. I do have the files backed up on an external hard drive, but my apps may be screwed. Until my computer is fixed, I will have no access to recording, video editing, photography and more. This will undoubtedly slow down my progress on After World (which has 4 tracks finished, and another 5 nearing completion).
GOOD NEWS: I did manage to get World Is Out the Window out for manufacture before the stupid thing went kabluey. The World CD is being manufactured as we surf, and will be ready for sale in a couple weeks!
In the mean time, I will try not to stress about it and get some writing done. Wish me luck!

Now that it’s no longer on the news stands, here’s Chris Berggren’s cool, big story in in the A2 Observer.
Olive was horrified. They wanted a picture of me and her spooning sweet at the top of the story - we waited a while, set her up, and then took her by surprise. The observer was pleased…

Son of Song was recorded during the Hokey Smoke and Post Hokey sessions, from 1990 - 1992 at the Disc and Sidestick Studios in Detroit by Greg Kutcher. Greg was the Disc’s sound engineer on the midnight shift. He would sneak us into the studio on his comp time whenever the studio was cancelled or empty. If the Sox were late or couldn’t make it, Frank cut tracks for Son of Song.

Karie typed out the lyrics for the solo, acoustic Son of Song CD, which we hope to release in a month or two. You can find all the lyrics listed in the sitemap. Son of Song Was Recorded by Greg Kutcher at the disc, during the Hokey Smoke sessions. It is “live” in the studio stuff.

It’s here! Frank’s first album in a decade! It comes with a lovely 12 page color booklet of Frank’s buggy photos and lyrics. I shall post the entire cover soon for you iTune-ites and mp3-zers.
This record was good therapy for me. When I started making it I could hardly sing, and needed to piece together vocal parts. By its finish, I was singing entire takes and just punching out (replacing) the few gorks and gunkies. The tracks were recorded in this order 9, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 1, 3, 2, and then 4 (which replaced World is Out the Window). I’m certainly not out of the dog house with the spasmodic dysphonia, but I am growlin and howling and hoping to put the bite back in my bark! It’s great to be writing again, and I hope to hawk to the gawkers one day soon. So please, for now, enjoy the new tunes…
