Welcome!

To the Left - you will find the latest entries - the workshop stuff is unfinished/in progress. These “songs” are usually without words and generally, well, unfinished sounding. I write the words last because that is the work of it. I don’t waste my time if there’s still a chance it won’t stick. Lots of stuff falls to the wayside. You can collect it and follow my progress.

I am Frank. I am from Ann Arbor. I had a really great band called Frank Allison and the Odd Sox. We always had fun and went everywhere to go nowhere. For 12 years we ruled many of the bars we played, but were naive, inept and unkept. We spun our glorious wheels until I lost my singing voice to spasmodic dysphonia. I took 7 years off and started a family. I listened to tons of music, but unless you count drumming on the steering wheel, I played not an instrument the entire time. A few years ago, my daughter wanted to learn music, so I bought her a uke. I figured its small size and the fact it had only 4 soft nylon strings would make it easier to learn. In the end, I taught her little, and eventually stole her uke. I played for fun and made up a daily tune that I would enjoy for an hour or so, and kiss goodbye. Soon I was grunting, ooing, hooting and whistling, doing whatever I could to convey melodies. My vocabulary grew. I basically overcame the spasm by forgetting the past and starting from scratch.I started this blog in april 2007. All the original entries are here. They document the tail end of the Log Rhythms of Love project through the complete production of World is Out the Window, and we have some way cool stuff planned for the near future.

Congratulations on the AA News article, Frank! When I saw it this morning I said “Hey, that reminds me of the Clinton Theater guy — wait, it *is* that guy!” We never knew you were a musician — just a friendly theater owner with an eclectic taste in music. I really enjoyed just now watching the videos linked from your site. When I get mp3s working on my linux laptop, I’ll be able to listen to those, too!

Say hi to Karie for us. We were in a hurry after seeing Ratatouille and didn’t get a chance to stop and chat.

P.S. someday we’ll pick up those Bollywood DVDs! ;-)

It’s not easy being both of me at the same time! Thank you John, Abha, Nishi, Priya & Chandani - You guys have always been steady friends at the theater, and I’m glad you are digging the tunes now, too! Thanks for the Indian music and lending us HUM TUM!
